GENERAL GUIDELINES FOR LETTERS AND EMAILS TO LEGISLATORS |
|
Letters and emails should be sent to the state representatives and senators who represent you. Every legislator is most interested in and responsive to his or her own constituents, who live in the legislative district he or she represents.
State who you are and why you are writing.Be as clear, concise and as brief as possible. If you are writing about a specific bill, mention the bill number.
Be respectful, sincere and as well-informed as possible about the topic you are writing about. Describe/explain the impact of the issue/bill on you, your community, those you know. This is how legislators learn the effect of legislative action on their constituents and community colleges in their legislative district.
Offer to serve as a resource to the legislator and his/her staff if they need further feedback.
Close letters and emails with a thank you. |
